Cloud & Horizon

These works grew from reflections on the tech metaphor of “The Cloud,” and how metaphor or analogy relates to perception, knowledge, connectedness, and information.  More thoughts about these and related pieces can be read in my recent interview in LandEscape Art Review.

Most of us see the whole without deep knowledge of all the parts that make things up.  I suspect that there is nothing mathematical about understanding the whole of something.  The whole can be understood as more than the sum of its parts, and simultaneously identified as less than the sum of its parts, or exactly the sum of its parts.  This is the paradox and conundrum of the space between perception and knowing.
